Rev. James R. Van Dyke, S.J., is the current president of Georgetown Preparatory School.
At the meeting of the Board of Trustees on Monday, September 11, 2017, the Board unanimously voted to elect Fr. Van Dyke as the next president of Georgetown Prep, the 55th president from the founding of the School and the 17th since its Separate Incorporation.
He was the founding principal at Cristo Rey Atlanta Jesuit High School. Fr. Van Dyke was the rector of the Jesuit Community at St. Ignatius in New York City for five years. In addition to his administrative positions, he served as the Director of Ignatian Programs and Faculty and Staff Faith Formation at Xavier High School in New York City and currently serves as the Director of Ignatian Programs and Faculty Formation at Canisius High School in Buffalo, New York.
In the classroom, Fr. Van Dyke has taught English at Canisius, Xavier, Fordham Prep (Bronx, New York), McQuaid Jesuit High School (Rochester, New York), and Regis High School (New York City). At Regis, he also served as the school’s chaplain. He has served on the Board of Trustees at Fordham Prep and Regis High School.
Fr. Van Dyke graduated from Canisius High School and matriculated to the University of Virginia where he received a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in English. He received a M.Div.iv and Th.M degrees from the Weston School of Theology. He also received a MALA degree from St. John’s College in Annapolis, Maryland.
He entered the Society of Jesus in 1981 and received his Final Vows in 2005.
