You are warmly invited to join Jake Braithwaite, SJ as he is ordained to the priesthood—a moment of profound joy for Jake, his Jesuit community, his family, and all who have accompanied him on his journey of faith.
Since entering the Society of Jesus in 2015, Jake’s formation has been marked by deep spiritual growth, compassionate service, and a steadfast commitment to walking with those on the margins. His novitiate years in Syracuse included ministry at Upstate University Hospital, L’Arche Syracuse, and McQuaid Jesuit, all rooted in the transformative grace of his 30‑day Spiritual Exercises retreat in Guelph, Ontario.
After professing vows in 2017, Jake went on to complete an MA in Social Philosophy at Loyola University Chicago, where he served as chaplain to both Arrupe College and the Labre Homeless Ministry, accompanying young adults and those who experience homelessness with humility and care.
Jake was later missioned to Brooklyn Jesuit Prep, serving as a math teacher and campus minister. During a local municipal crisis, he played a pivotal role in ensuring students continued to receive daily lunch—an expression of the cura personalis at the heart of Jesuit education.
In 2023, Jake moved to Berkeley, California to pursue an M.Div. and STL at the Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University, where he also served at San Quentin Rehabilitation Center, offering pastoral presence and hope to the incarcerated. Jake was ordained a deacon by Bishop Michael Barber in October 2025.
Now, after eleven years of Jesuit formation, Jake will be ordained to the priesthood. We hope you will join him, in gratitude and celebration, as he begins this new chapter of service in the Church.
