RWANDA: MIZERO JESUIT ACADEMY PROJECT
Mizero Technical Secondary School (Mizero TSS) is a jesuit school located in the Western province of Rwanda. The school started in 1997 as a Centre catering for the 1994 genocide orphans who were accommodated within the Jesuit novitiate premises. Years later, the former orphanage was transformed into a vocational training center, with the aim of helping genocide orphans unable to attend to classical education, to learn some technical skills such as fashion design, culinary art, plumbing, electricity, and construction. Today, the school counts 300 students, particularly those from poor families and provide technical education especially to young girls as they are the most vulnerable. The school also aims at inclusivity in education, empowering all young people with technical skills for their hope-filled future.
To enroll more students in need of education, MTSS started a project of increasing its infrastructure. There is a need of student’s accommodation, a dining hall, classrooms, and workshops. The project will cost over $1,500,000. The Rwandan Jesuits availed 18 acres of land for the school expansion.
Any contribution to the Mizero TSS project will be very much appreciated since it will help the Jesuits and our lay collaborators to provide quality education to more young women and men in Rwanda and empower them with skills and values for their hope-filled future.
